Madrid Airport with a wheelchair: taxi, transfer or accessible van?

Landing at Madrid Airport (Barajas) with a wheelchair, you have three ways to reach your hotel. The best one depends less on the airport run and more on what you plan to do afterwards.

In short: If you are staying in central Madrid and not going anywhere else, an adapted taxi or a transfer is simplest. If you plan day trips or several journeys a day, a hired ramp van usually works out better, because one price covers every trip.

Part of our guide to wheelchair accessible van hire in Spain.

Accessible taxi (eurotaxi)

Taxis between Barajas and anywhere inside the M-30 ring road charge a fixed fare of 33 euros, with no supplements. Adapted taxis, called eurotaxi, follow the same regulated fares. The catch is that there are few of them, so it is worth booking one in advance rather than relying on the rank.

Best for: a single trip to a hotel in the centre.

Private accessible transfer

A driver meets you at arrivals with an adapted vehicle. It is the most comfortable option on the day, but you pay per journey: specialist companies in Madrid publish prices from around 150 euros one way for one to three people. A return trip alone is already about 300 euros, and any other outing is extra.

Best for: airport and back, with a stay where you will not need transport in between.

Hired ramp van

You drive a van with a ramp and the wheelchair user travels seated in their own chair. The rental company can usually deliver it to the terminal for a supplement. You pay per day, and that price covers the airport, every trip in the city and day trips to places like Toledo or Segovia, with room for luggage.

Best for: stays of several days with outings, families and anyone who wants to move at their own pace.

Which is best from Madrid Airport? A quick way to decide

Count the journeys. If it is only airport, hotel and airport, a taxi or transfer is hard to beat. If you add even one day trip, or you need transport every day, ask for a van price and compare it with the transfers you would otherwise pay for.

That comparison is what we do for you: tell us your dates and your chair, and we send you a full van price, ready to set against the alternatives. No commitment, and nothing is booked until you accept.

Need a van with a ramp? Tell us about your trip and your chair, and we look for a van that suits it before we send you an offer. Free, no commitment, reply within one working day.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi from Madrid Airport to the city centre?

Taxis charge a fixed fare of 33 euros between Barajas and anywhere inside the M-30 ring road, with no supplements. Adapted taxis (eurotaxi) follow the same regulated fares.

Are there wheelchair accessible taxis at Madrid Airport?

Yes, they are called eurotaxi, but there are few of them. Book one in advance rather than relying on the taxi rank.

Is it cheaper to hire an accessible van than to use transfers in Madrid?

It depends on how many journeys you make. For airport and back only, a taxi or transfer is usually cheaper. With day trips or daily journeys, one van price covering every trip often works out better.
